Bleaching field

Old engravings and drawings show that the open space used to function as a bleaching field. A bleaching field is a short mowed lawn that was used to bleach linen, it was found that sunlight and oxygen had a good effect on making linen fresher and whiter. At the end of the 19th century, the bleaching field was transformed into a garden with chestnuts and thorns. These have been cut down since 1960 and the field has been raised, there is still one 150-year-old white horse chestnut. Many gardens at the houses have also been transformed, some were only paved. Especially monkshood, wild garlic, sweet lady bedstraw, maggi plant, and Madonna Lily are planted.
